A rice cooker changed my life

I was never big on cooking and when I lived on my own a bowl of cereal for dinner was my go to on many occasions. However, being a wife now I feel I have a duty (and I don’t mean ‘duty’ as in it is a wife’s job to be in the kitchen) but an obligation to help my husband and I stay on a path of healthy living that doesn’t involve food from a cardboard box with cartoon characters.

But I never found enjoyment in planning meals or making elaborate recipes with tons of ingredients. My husband and I are both very busy so finding the time to cook was also a challenge, until the Christmas of 2020 when I received a gift from my sister that would change my life: A rice cooker.

Now maybe not everyone will share my excitement for a device that gives you perfectly cooked rice but I married a gym rat body builder who eats rice at almost every meal. Having a rice cooker is a time saving miracle when you need to make 10 cups of rice for the week.

I came across this visualization of rice dishes from around the world that I found interesting. I love making sushi with my rice cooker, it creates the perfect white sticky rice. I also LOVE making risotto (originally from Italy) and Jambalaya with shrimp, sausage and chicken like they do down south in the US. I have even made rice pudding in my rice cooker. It is amazing and I love it and if you don’t own you should put it on your own Christmas list, or registry or just buy it your damn self.
