Being an aunt has been my greatest joy in life

When my sister told me her and her partner were having a baby I cried more than my mom, dad and even I think her and her wife did when they found out the news. I was so happy for them as they had been trying to conceive for close to a year and experienced some complications during the process. They were going to give up all together when they gave it one last try.

That was almost two years ago today and baby Logan and I have a bond that I can not even begin to describe. I was always my sisters baby, we have an incredible relationship and she is my best friend. When she first told me she was pregnant she said, “I’m so happy to be able to give you your own baby now too”.

I’ve been obsessed with him, he is my baby and my buddy and I’ve loved watching him hit all of his milestones. His first word was mama, of course he has two, mom and mama. Then he loved saying ‘up’ ‘no’ ‘baby’ ‘dog’ and then came ‘rekee’ which is me. Even though my name is Raleigh, this is what came out of his mouth and it stuck. I will probably be Aunt Rekee for the rest of my life and I’m fine with that.

It’s been so incredible watching this baby grow and learn and watch the world in amazement. It’s so funny when you have a new baby every little thing they do is the greatest thing ever. The first time he fed himself, the first time he smiled, laughed, walked, danced. Everything he does I just watch him in awe soaking in these memories that will soon be stored away in the past.

I found this comprehensive guide to a child’s new skills from the team at AAAstateofplay.com super informative. We also have a new baby in the family on my husbands side, his nephew who was born just two days ago! So it will be fun to watch him hit all his milestones on this chart too.

The first smile, the first sounds, watching them become mobile and independent is such a wild ride. Logan is two now and we enjoy watching movies together, playing monster, chasing the dog, swimming and laughing together. This winter I will take him on his first snowboarding lesson!! I already put him on my balance board at home and he is a natural, we will be shredding the slopes together in no time.
