My retirement travel bucket list
As I sit at my desk, staring out the window and watching the world go by, I can’t help but daydream about all the places I want to visit when I retire. The thought of finally being able to travel and explore the world without the constraints of a 9-to-5 job is incredibly exciting to me.
As I imagine my retirement travels, a list of destinations begins to form in my mind. At the top of the list is a trip to Italy, where I can wander the streets of Rome, sip espresso at a café in Florence, and take in the breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast.
Next on the list is a journey through the lush forests and towering mountains of Japan. I dream of walking along the cherry blossom-lined streets of Kyoto, soaking in hot springs in the Japanese Alps, and feasting on delicious sushi in Tokyo.
As I continue to daydream about my retirement travels, the list grows longer and more exciting and realities also set in. At 36 years old, my retirement savings is very small. How will I ever save up enough money for my dream retirement? This map I found from madisontrust.com didn’t make me feel much better. Looking at how much I will need to retire in my home state of New York (almost 78k a year!) makes me a bit nervous. I may travel down the list to somewhere like South Carolina where $53,207 will have my retire comfortably. Where ever I do end up I know it will be the adventure of a lifetime. Until then, I will continue to dream and plan for the day when I can finally see all the places on my travel list.
