Top Energy Star Cities in the United States

There are many programs that encourage homeowners and corporate building owners to become energy efficient. There are also large tax breaks to give owners an incentive to go green. The most carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions come from heating and cooling buildings. This alone accounts for 20 percent of CO2 emissions in the US.

Furnaces that were installed before the year 2000 should be the first thing to replace. New models can not only trim electric bills by 15% but also lower harmful emissions. You should also complete a home or building energy evaluation to see just how much energy you are using. Then you can see what steps to take to make your building or home more energy efficient.

This graphic from the team at solarpower.guide shows the top energy cities in the US. LA is at the top of the map for having 648 energy star buildings. This means that the buildings save energy, money, and help protect the environment. For these buildings to be Energy Star certified they need to meet standards set by the EPA that includes a score higher than 75 on a scale of 100. This means they are more energy efficient than 75% of similar the buildings in the country.
