Turkey Day Traditions

I love Thanksgiving and I’ve always loved it even as a kid. Thanksgiving Day dinner and all of its high carb, savory, slathered-in-gravy deliciousness. Then after you are done eating dinner, you get to eat even more when the darling pies come out!

Of course after the mass feeding is over everyone gets to relax and get in that much needed turkey nap. If you eat dinner early like we usually do, around 1pm or so, you will then get to eat AGAIN after your nap! This time you get to make a mouth watering turkey sandwich. So follow with me here, eat, eat, nap, eat! And this is why it’s my favorite!

This year I am going to be cooking my own Thanksgiving dinner with my new husband. I’m excited and nervous because I am not the best cook but together I know we can make this delicious and special. I found this graphic from a website I use often, howlongtocook.org which is easily the simplest way to find out how long to cook ANYTHING. Usually when I look for a recipe online I have to read through the entire authors childhood history at her grandmothers house before I can find out how long I need to cook the chicken in her recipe. Annoying.

The chart shows 10 simple rubs and seasonings you can use to make your turkey stand out this year. I’m going to try the citrus and herb butter rub this holiday as it seems simple enough for a newbie and fancy enough to impress my three guests. I’m also making all the fixings, mash potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, dinner rolls, gravy, pumpkin pie and apple pie. My mouth is already watering just typing that. Wishing you all a fabulous Thanksgiving!
